LONDON (AP) _ Nigel Benn of Britain will defend his WBC super-middleweight title against American Steve Little at Wembley Stadium on Sept. 2 on a card that includes four world championship fights.
WBC heavyweight champion Oliver McCall's defense against Britain's Frank Bruno will head the card.
It will be Benn's ninth defense and his second in two months.
Little held the WBA super-middleweight title last year before losing it to Frankie Liles.
BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) _ American Tony Ganerelli was picked Tuesday as the new opponent for defending WBO welterweight champion Eamonn Loughran of Northern Ireland in an Aug. 26 fight in Belfast.
South African Luvuyo Kakaza, who was to fight Loughran last week, was ruled out of the fight by British boxing officials when he failed an eye test.
Loughran, should he win, was ordered to defend against Angel Beltre of the Dominican Republic on Oct. 7 in Belfast. Their last bout ended in a no-contest verdict when Beltre was injured in an accidental head butt.
TOKYO (AP) _ Douglas Jennings of the Pacific League's front-running Orix Bluewave hit home runs in three consecutive at-bats Tuesday, but the Kintetsu Buffaloes edged the Bluewave 8-7 at Nagoya.
Jennings, who last played for the Chicago Cubs, now has 10 homers.
Former Chicago White Sox player Darrin Jackson hit his 12th homer as the Seibu Lions beat the Nippon Ham Fighters 5-0.
At Tokyo Dome, Shane Mack doubled home two runs as the Yomiuri Giants beat the Chunichi Dragons 4-2.
MANCHESTER, England (AP) _ Suspended French striker Eric Cantona has asked to be released from his contract with Manchester United, but the club turned down his request Tuesday.
``Cantona was very upset at the recent inquiry concerning his involvement in the training session held on July 25,'' Manchester said in a statement. ``He felt he had little future in the English game and that his career would be best served by a move abroad.''
The English Football Association later said it would not penalize Cantona for playing in an exhibition against Rochdale despite his suspension.
Cantona has been banned until October for his kung fu kick on a fan in January.
