Counting Crows: 25 years & counting
“When I look at the television, I want to see me
staring right back at me.”
Adam Durst, the artsy, angst-voiced front man of Counting Crows who sang that ode to rock ambition, will set you straight about signature hit “Mr. Jones”: It wasn’t their big break and they don’t always play it in concert.
Their break came when they performed “Round Here” on “Saturday Night Live” and David Letterman’s show; “Mr. Jones” became an unexpected hit off their album at roughly the same time in 1994. (They occasionally leave it off a set list now since they only want to play it when they feel it — so they don’t resent it, Durst told Stereogum.com.)
Counting Crows will play Xfinity Theatre in Hartford Wednesay, Aug. 15, as part of their 25 Years And Counting Tour. Multi-platinum band +LIVE+ — who recently released their first new single in 10 years, “Love Lounge” — are touring with the folk-pop group that also had movie tunes in “Cruel Intentions” (“Colorblind”) and Shrek 2 (“Accidentally in Love”).
