n There will be a blood donation opportunity today from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fitness Inc., 1800 Garrett Way in Pocatello and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the American Red Cross Blood Donor Center in Pine Ridge Mall. n Business Women of Pocatello will host a December Gift Exchange at noon today at Puerto Vallarta Restaurant, 160 W. Cedar St. in Pocatello. Instead of our normal business lunch, we are doing a holiday gift exchange this month. Bring a wrapped gift ($20 or less). We will have time to network and get to know the other local business women, so bring a co-worker or friend and your business cards.

n There will be a city Water Pollution Control bid opening at 2 p.m. today in the Iwamizawa Conference Room at Pocatello City Hall.

n The Pocatello Elks Club will host its Christmas party from 6 to 11 p.m. today at the lodge, 410 S. Main St. in Pocatello. This party is for all Elks, family and friends, and employees. Tom and Jerry’s will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. for free to any Elks member. Almost Famous will be playing from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

n The ninth annual Rockin Christmas Celebration will take place at 7 p.m. today. There will be big Trans-Siberian Orchestra-style instrumentals and fun sing-alongs and a massive light show with thousands of beams. The performances at Rocky Mountain Ministries, 845 Hyde Ave. in Pocatello, are free.

n Local author Kelly Steele will be signing copies of his children’s’ books at Texas Roadhouse in Pocatello from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Saturday.

n The Palace Playhouse, 158 E. Chubbuck Road, will put on a production of “Scrooge! The Musical” today and Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m., dinner is served at 6:15 p.m., and the show begins at 7 p.m. each night. Patrons may order tickets at www.palaceplayhouse.com or call the box office at 208-238-8001.

Saturday

n The Portneuf Valley Audubon Society will host the American Falls Reservoir count Saturday. It includes Michaud Flats, the Fort Hall Bottoms, McTucker Springs, Springfield and Aberdeen areas. To volunteer and be assigned to a group, contact ISU Professor Emeritus Chuck Trost at 221-4530.

n The Pocatello Model Railroad and Historical Society will be hosting an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to raise money for the Idaho Foodbank. The event will be hosted in the Union Pacific brick building #59 south of the Union Pacific depot, and just north of the Benton Overpass. Everyone is welcome, and admission is free.

n The Friendship Club of Pocatello, 745 S. First Ave., will host its annual Christmas party and potluck from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Santa will be there. Sloppy Joes and condiments will be provided.

n The Pocatello Parks and Recreation Department will host its annual Holiday Hoopla free throw shooting competition to benefit the Idaho Foodbank from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods. The timed contest is $3 per turn and participants are invited to make as many free throws as possible in one minute. The winner in each division will receive a $50 Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card.

n In loving memory of Ilaria Rodriguez, the JRM Foundation will host Outreach Ministries at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 400 N. Fourth Ave. in Pocatello. A hot meal and clothing will be provided to people in need, and an opportunity to sign up for boxed food will also be available.

Saturday-Monday

n Trinity Episcopal Church, 248 N. Arthur Ave. in Pocatello, will host the greening of the church on Saturday and later on in the afternoon will sing carols in Old Town neighborhoods. On Sunday, the fourth candle of the Advent season will be lighted at the 10 a.m. service. The early Christmas Eve Service begins at 6:30 p.m. with a musical prelude followed by Holy Eucharist at 7 p.m. A candlelight Holy Eucharist begins at 10:30 p.m. with a musical prelude starting at 10 p.m. Candles will be provided.
