More than 7,000 Vermont customers are still without power

November 2, 2017

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Utility crews are continuing work to restore power to more than 7,000 customers across Vermont, days after a powerful wind storm knocked out power across New England.

The American Red Cross had opened three emergency shelters in Vermont on Wednesday night in response to the widespread outages but says no one used them, so it’s placing them on standby, with staff on call.

The state says residents who receive 3SquaresVT food assistance and have had refrigerated food spoil due to the power outages are eligible to have part or all of their October benefit replaced.

In Barre, a community action group and the Vermont Foodbank are helping to provide residents with food at the Capstone Community Action food shelf on Friday and Monday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
