Electrolux Cuts 200 Jobs
BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) _ About 200 Electrolux employees will lose their jobs with the closing of a vacuum motor plant in Piney Flats, Tenn., and manufacturing changes at another vacuum plant in Bristol, Va.
The home appliance maker will move sweeper motor manufacturing from Piney Flats to Bristol, about 15 miles northeast. It also will close its brush and bag lines in Bristol, buying those components instead from suppliers.
Local employment will drop from 800 to 600 in the next two years, said James McCain, chief operating officer in Bristol. McCain said Thursday that the first round of job cuts will occur in about six to eight weeks.
Last month, the Stockholm-based company announced plans to cut about 2,000 jobs internationally, or 2.3 percent of its work force, in a restructuring this year after posting an 11 percent decline in fourth quarter earnings.
