Billy Graham Hospitalized

June 20, 2000

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ Evangelist Billy Graham was hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., after undergoing a procedure to relieve fluid buildup around his brain, aides said.

The 81-year-old evangelist from Montreat is doing well and is expected to recover, according to Larry Ross, chief spokesman for Graham Crusades in Dallas.

Ross declined to discuss specifics about Graham’s health but said his condition is not life-threatening.

``We’re expectant that the Rev. Graham will be able to maintain his schedule in coming weeks,″ Ross told the Asheville Citizen-Times for a story in Tuesday’s editions.

That schedule includes an appearance next month in Amsterdam at a conference for evangelists and Christian leaders.

In recent years, Graham has undergone treatment for Parkinson’s disease at the Mayo Clinic. He was diagnosed with the degenerative brain condition about six years ago.

The paper said Graham was in stable condition.
