Holyoke man gets up to 10 years for shooting child
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Holyoke man has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for a shooting that injured a 5-year-old boy and his father.
Brian Marrero was sentenced Monday in Hamden Superior Court after pleading guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Prosecutors say the 22-year-old Marrero opened fire on Reynaldo Diaz on March 6. Diaz put his son behind him when Marrero started shooting but one bullet passed through the man’s leg and struck the little boy in the leg.
The Republican (http://bit.ly/1bXL21V ) reports that Marrero had a relationship with the child’s mother, who was the ex-girlfriend of Diaz.
The prosecutor said the boy is recovering but remains traumatized and is always looking over his shoulder.
