Gateway, up 2 at 51 3/4

The North Sioux City, S.D.-based personal computer maker reported third-quarter earnings that topped Wall Street analysts’ expectations.

Midway Games, down 2 5/16 at 9 7/16

The manufacturer of video game software expects a 2 percent to 4 percent decline in profits in its fiscal second quarter ending in December.

Dole Food, down 4 9/16 at 30 1/16

The producer and marketer of fresh fruit and vegetables warned its third-quarter earnings will be 35 percent below year ago levels and its year-end earnings will be 20 percent below 1997 levels.

Franklin Resources, down 3 9/16 at 32 13/16

The mutual fund company reported fourth-quarter earnings that were below Wall Street analysts’ estimates.

Reebok, down 1/2 at 14 1/4

The athletic shoe and apparel-maker reported disappointing third-quarter profits that were down more than 60 percent from the same period last year.

Pacific Sunwear, down 4 13/16 at 21 7/16

The specialty retailer’s stock was downgraded by the investment firm R. Humprehy.

WorldTalk Communications, down 1 3/32 at 1 27/32

The Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of directory-based messaging and security software products reported a loss of 30 cents a share, compared with a loss of 12 cents in the year-ago quarter. The loss was greater than Wall Street analysts’ had expected.

Remedy, down 2 9/16 at 10

The software company reported third-quarter earnings that fell short of Wall Street’s expectations. Goldman Sachs & Co. downgraded Remedy stock.

Boron LePore & Associates, down 8 5/16 at 31 1/2

Salomon Smith Barney downgrades Boron LePore stock.
