Mane & Shell, a new fundraiser, will benefit Aiken Equine Rescue

September 17, 2018

Aiken Equine Rescue is trying something different to raise money to help horses.

Its inaugural Mane & Shell event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 4 at the organization’s farm at 532 Glenwood Drive.

“We need to look at new avenues to bring in donations, which are down this year for many nonprofits,” said Aiken Equine Rescue President and Operating Director Jim Rhodes. “We want to make this an annual event, but we know it’s going to take a couple of years to get it up and running.”

Roasted oysters and a low country boil prepared by JC’s Seafood will be served along with beer and wine.

The Clydes of Asheville, North Carolina will provide musical entertainment.

Attendees will be able to play cornhole and horsehoes.

In addition, there will be a silent auction and a raffle.

Tickets to Mane & Shell cost $65 per person, and can be purchased at eventbrite.com. They are $50 apiece for military veterans and Aiken Young Professionals members.

Sponsorship opportunities also are available.

Aiken Equine Rescue cares for unwanted horses and finds homes for them. In addition, the nonprofit provides horses and facilities for Saratoga WarHorse’s program for military veterans with emotional issues.

Aiken Equine Rescue also coordinates hurricane relief efforts for horses and other animals.
