DENVER (AP) _ Terry Shumpert, who hit .347 this year and played six positions for the Colorado Rockies, agreed Wednesday to a one-year contract.

Shumpert, a 33-year-old infielder-outfielder, had 10 homers, 37 RBIs and was 14-for-14 in steal attempts, a team record. He spent the first two months of the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

After becoming a free agent following the World Series, the Rockies offered salary arbitration, enabling bargaining to continue through Jan. 8.

To make room for Shumpert on the 40-man roster, the Rockies designated right-hander Chandler Martin for assignment. Martin, 26, was 13-8 with a 3.78 ERA in 27 games last season for Double-A Carolina.
