European Stocks Generally Lower

LONDON (AP) _ European stocks finished mostly lower Wednesday.

European bourses were weighed down by the fact that the U.S. economic outlook remained unchanged despite another interest rate cut of 25 basis points on Tuesday, analysts said.

The Dow Jones Stoxx Total Market Index of shares in European companies fell 0.92 points to 287.03 points. The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx Total Market Index, which tracks companies in countries that joined the single currency, was up 0.23 points at 286.13 points.

The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 Index was up 6.7 points at 3,797.0 and the Dow Jones Stoxx 50 Index was down 12.4 points at 3,677.8.

In domestic markets, The Financial Times-Stock Exchange 100-share index closed down 21.60 points, or 0.40 percent, at 5,408.70; and the CAC 40 Index in Paris closed down 22.73 points, or 0.47 percent, at 4,812.14. Late Wednesday, Frankfurt’s Xetra DAX was up 25.34 points, or 0.49 percent, at 5,241.45.
