NYC exhibit looks at ex-Marine’s Iraq war diary
NEW YORK (AP) — A New York exhibition features the war diary entries of an ex-Marine in Iraq.
It’s being shown at the Bronx Documentary Center on the 10-year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
The multimedia exhibit runs through April 19. It includes 36 handwritten pages from Lt. Timothy McLaughlin’s diary, enlarged to poster-size.
In addition to his wartime recollections, McLaughlin was at the Pentagon on 9/11. His diary entries include what he heard and saw that day.
The exhibit also includes McLaughlin’s flag, which briefly draped the statue of Saddam Hussein before it was toppled.
The exhibition includes text by journalist Peter Maass and images by photographer Gary Knight.
Both men reported on the battles fought by McLaughlin’s battalion as it approached Baghdad.
McLaughlin now works as a lawyer in Boston.
