Christmas from Ireland: Lúnasa, Ashley Davis at The Kate

December 4, 2018

The Kate goes evergreen Dec. 13 — as in putting its audience in a homey setting of Irish musicians during the holidays.

“Christmas from Ireland” is a concert featuring the flute-bass-guitar-pipes-whistle group Lúnasa and singer Ashley Davis.

Davis, a native of Lawrence, Kansas, has studied music and Irish culture in Nashville and Ireland.

Lúnasa is composed of flautist, whistle-player and lead man/comic Kevin Crawford, piper and whistle player Cillian Vallely, fiddler and whistle player Colin Farrell, Trevor Hutchinson on upright bass and guitarist Patrick Doocey.

For 22 years, the group has achieved a reputation as having a repertoire of traditional Irish music, the intricate harmonies of a jazz combo and the energy of a rock band, says its publicist, and the evening promises spirited instrumental music, poetry and songs both unknown and familiar.

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook. Thursday, Dec. 13, 7:30 p.m. $44-$0. 860-510-0453. KatharineHepburnTheater.org
