Person Cleared To Play for Auburn
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) _ Adrian Person, nephew of NBA players Chuck and Wesley Person, enrolled at Auburn on Tuesday and was cleared to play for the 19th-ranked Tigers immediately.
Person, who graduated from nearby Southern Union Community College on Monday, will join freshman Corey Watkins as midseason additions for Auburn (9-0). Both are eligible to play for the Tigers against Wofford on Tuesday night.
``I have one word to describe how I feel, `Great!′ ″ Person said. ``I have wanted to play for Auburn all my life. It was very depressing watching the games and seeing the guys playing, wishing I could be there.″
Person, a 6-foot-8 forward from Brantley, Ala., will wear No. 45 for the Tigers, the same number Chuck Person wore.
Adrian Person was a two-time Junior College All-American at Southern Union in 1996 and 1997. He averaged 30 points and 6.7 rebounds a game two years ago and led the nation in junior college scoring. He finished second in balloting that season for Junior College Player of the Year.
Person has said he planned to walk on at Auburn as soon as he graduated from junior college. His uncle Chuck, Auburn’s career scoring leader, will pay for him to attend school. He will have 1 1/2-years eligibility left.
Auburn is off to its best start in 40 years and broke into the AP college basketball poll on Monday at No. 19.
