Tigers DL Moehler, Activate Palmer

April 7, 2001

CHICAGO (AP) _ The Detroit Tigers placed right-handed pitcher Brian Moehler on the 15-day disabled list with a sore throwing shoulder Saturday.

The Tigers also activated third baseman Dean Palmer, who had been sidelined since March 23 with a sore right biceps tendon.

Detroit also optioned infielder Ryan Jackson to Triple-A Toledo and recalled rookie pitcher Victor Santos.

Moehler began feeling discomfort in his shoulder during an exhibition game against Cleveland March 27, but didn’t report it to the Tigers until Saturday.

``He said it stiffened up on him again in Erie (on April 1) and he felt something in the fifth inning of his last start (Thursday against Minnesota) and pitched the rest of that game in pain,″ manager Phil Garner said.

Matt Perisho probably will replace Moehler in the starting rotation.
