NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) _ Ninety-four American military personnel have died since Operation Desert Shield began on Aug. 7. In addition, five other members of the U.S.-led multinational forces have died. Here is a list, by country, of the deaths.

United States:

Dec. 31 - A 101st Airborne soldier was found dead in Saudi Arabia from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Dec. 31 - A 101st Airborne lieutenant was killed when a rifle accidentally discharged in Saudi Arabia.

Dec. 30 - A soldier attached to an army air defense unit died of an apparent heart attack in Bahrain.

Dec. 30 - A sailor was killed in a car accident near the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah.

Dec. 29 - An 18th Airborne Corps sergeant was killed when he was sucked into a water pump at a desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.

Dec. 29 - An enlisted man with the 3rd Marine regiment was killed in Saudi Arabia when another man’s rifle discharged accidentally.

Dec. 23 - A soldier from the 101st Airborne Division died of injuries suffered when a 105mm howitzer blew up during a live-firing exercise in Saudi Arabia on Dec. 20.

Dec. 23 - Two sailors from the USS Midway were killed when their tour bus overturned on a liberty excursion in Abu Dhabi.

Dec. 22 - 21 sailors from the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga drowned in the Mediterranean off the Israeli port of Haifa when the boat returning them to the vessel from shore leave capsized in rough seas. It was the single-biggest death toll from an incident related to Desert Shield.

Dec. 22 - A soldier was killed when his truck overturned in eastern Saudi Arabia.

Dec. 19 - Four men were killed when a Navy helicopter from the assault carrier USS Tripoli crashed en route to the gulf.

Dec. 14 - Three soldiers due for deployment in Saudi Arabia were killed in a helicopter crash near Cleveland, Texas.

Dec. 10 - A Marine died in northeastern Saudi Arabia of a presumed ruptured brain aneurysm after complaining of nausea, diarrhea and headaches.

Dec. 10 - A Marine died from a presumed heart attack on the assault ship USS Iwo Jima after physical fitness training in Bahrain.

Dec. 9 - An Army private was killed in Saudi Arabia when the tractor- trailer water supply truck he was driving overturned, pinning him in the cab.

Dec. 5 - A private with the Army’s 20th engineer brigade died after being trapped between a truck and a pallet of construction material at a desert base in Saudi Arabia.

Dec. 4 - A Tennessee National guardsman was found dead from a gunshot wound in his tent in Saudi Arabia. U.S. spokesmen said he shot himself.

Dec. 1 - An airman with the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing’s engineering squadron was killed in a vehicle accident in Saudi Arabia.

Nov. 30 - A corporal with the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade died of an apparent heart attack aboard the USS Shreveport in the gulf.

Nov. 24 - A soldier from the 101st Combat Support Group was killed when the truck he was riding in collided with a civilian car in Saudi Arabia.

Nov. 17 - A soldier from the 101st Aviation Brigade’s 8th Squadron was killed in a truck accident in Saudi Arabia.

Nov. 9 - An enlisted man in the 3rd Marine regiment in northeastern Saudi Arabia was killed in his sleep when a rifle was accidently discharged.

Nov. 8 - A soldier was found dead in a shower in Saudi Arabia, but an initial investigation ruled out foul play.

Nov. 7 - A 1st Cavalry Division soldier died from injuries suffered trying to free a 2 1/2 -ton truck stuck in the Saudi desert.

Oct. 30 - Ten sailors were killed when a steam line ruptured in the boiler room of the assault carrier USS Iwo Jima in the gulf.

Oct. 30 - A Marine was killed when his vehicle overturned in the Saudi desert.

Oct. 10 - The two-man crew of an Air Force F-111 fighter-bomber was killed in a crash during a low-level training flight in Saudi Arabia.

Oct. 8 - Two fliers of the Alabama Air National Guard were killed when their RF4C Phantom reconnaisance jet crashed in Saudi Arabia.

Oct. 8 - Two UH-1 helicopters from the assault carrier USS Okinawa, carrying eight Marines, vanished during a night training flight in the northern Arabian Sea.

Sept. 30 - The two-man crew of an Air Force F-15 Eagle fighter was killed when the plane crashed during a low-level exercise in Saudi Arabia.

Sept. 26 - A sergeant from the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing died of a self- inflicted gunshot wound in Saudi Arabia.

Sept. 20 - A soldier with the 82nd Airborne Division was killed in a vehicle accident in Saudi Arabia.

Sept. 14 - An officer from the 24th Infantry Division was killed when his vehicle crashed in Saudi Arabia.

Sept. 11 - A machinists’ mate died of natural causes aboard the USS Lasalle in the gulf.

Aug. 29 - A C-5A Galaxy transport aircraft loaded with supplies for U.S. forces in the gulf crashed shortly after takeoff from Ramstein air base in Germany, killing 13 crewmen.

Aug. 21 - An electrician’s mate aboard the missile cruiser USS Antietam was electrocuted while working on the ship’s ventilation system.

Aug. 12 - An Air Force sergeant died when he was hit by a military truck on a darkened runway in Saudi Arabia.


Nov. 30 - A Royal Army Medical Corps soldier with the 33rd Field Hospital in northeastern Saudi Arabia died of a gunshot wound to the head. A British spokesman said no other soldiers were involved.

Nov. 13 - The pilot of a Royal Air Force Jaguar attack jet from No. 54 Squadron was killed when the plane crashed on a training mission in Qatar.


Dec. 7 - The pilot of a Mirage F1CR jet was killed when his plane crashed in southern Saudi Arabia during a low-level training mission.

Nov. 13 - A non-commissioned officer was killed when the U.S. army jeep he was riding in overturned in Saudi Arabia.


Dec. 5 - A 22-year-old Navy petty officer died of injuries suffered from a missile launcher recoil on Dec. 4 during a missile-firing exercise aboard the frigate Numancia in the Gulf of Oman.
