Havasu Mayor Mark Nexsen receives rousing send-off
With a couple dozen dignitaries from government and local businesses in attendance, Lake Havasu City Mayor Mark Nexsen was given a sendoff suiting a longtime civil servant on Sunday at the SARA Park Rodeo Grounds.
Nexsen, who is stepping down after serving the last 12 years as the city’s mayor, was given a farewell from friends and family, with incoming Mayor Cal Sheehy, former and current councilmembers Jeni Coke and Sonny Borrelli and Nexsen’s son Jonathan among those giving speeches.
As a retirement gift, Nexen was gifted an acrylic photo from local photographer Nathan Adler of the colorful sunset over Lake Havasu imprinted with his name, years of service and a fresh take on the city’s motto, “Retire Like You Mean It.”
“It’s incredible. It’s heartwarming. I don’t have words for it, to be honest with you,” Nexsen said.
“The outpouring of support on a day like this is important. But, one of the things that’s been important for 12 years is I’ve seen that support all that time. Even when I made decisions that maybe weren’t the most popular, people stood behind me. I can’t thank them enough for that.”
