Beloved McDonald’s employee retires after 32 years
EXETER, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire woman is retiring after three decades with a local McDonald’s.
The Portsmouth Herald reports Lee Smart will clock out for the last time Friday at the McDonald’s in Exeter. The Kensington woman began working at there in 1985 and has made a lasting impact on the community along the way.
Smart says she’s doubled as a therapist during her time at the fast food restaurant. Her customers have shared personal problems. Smart says she used to willfully listen to one customer who had cancer and another who would check in after dialysis treatments.
Smart’s boss, Gina Warner, says her employee embodies day-to-day operations at McDonald’s and is a beloved member of the community.
Smart says she will miss all her “people” when she retires.
