Lake City’s Ron McNair Committee plans 5K race, health fair
LAKE CITY, S.C. – The Ron McNair Committee and the family of the former astronaut continue to pay tribute and recognize his accomplishments. McNair was a native of Lake City.
This year, the committee will host a 5K race/walk and health fair on Oct. 20 at the Ronald E. McNair Park on East Main Street in Lake City. The race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., according to the committee.
Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children 17 and under. There is a $5 late fee after Monday. Online registration can be completed at itsyourrace.com. On-site registration will begin at 7 a.m.
Air Force Lt. Col. Rebecca S. Elliott is the walk ambassador. Elliott is a former squadron commander at the 52nd Medical Operations Squadron at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.
The health fair will feature free screenings, including blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, hearing and sickle cell. Breast cancer awareness information will be provided, as well as flu shots and chiropractic services.
