Office, housing projects advance
A contested office complex and a 156-lot single-family home development called Colonial Heights were unanimously approved Thursday by the Allen County Plan Commission.
Colonial Heights is off the west side of the 8000 to 8200 blocks of Huguenard Road, south of Wallen Road and north of Cook Road, in Washington Township.
The approved primary development plan revived a substantially similar plan from several years ago submitted by longtime Fort Wayne developer Zohrab Tazanian. Colonial Heights will contain homes built by Westport Homes.
The approved office plan includes rezoning 4.4 acres at the northeast corner of Union Chapel and Tonkel roads. The project’s primary development plan calls for three new office buildings and renovation of an existing home-like building already used as an office.
Developers sought to have the land, in Cedar Creek Township, rezoned from agricultural with a nonconforming use to professional office and professional services.
ProTailored Physical Services requested the changes for the project. During a public hearing last week, a handful of neighbors found the project more suited to an urbanized area.
A representative of ProTailored argued the lot is near both the Hawthorne Park and recently approved Eagle’s Nest residential developments and would provide services needed by nearby residents.
The rezoning must be approved by the Allen County commissioners.
