UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) _ The New York Islanders have signed center Brent Sutter to a multiyear contract and reassigned assistant coach Bob Nystrom to a front-office position, according to published reports.

Sutter scored 29 goals and had 31 assists in 70 games for the Islanders last season. In his seven-year career, all with the Islanders, Sutter has 200 goals and 216 assists.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed by the team, but the New York Daily News reported in its Friday editions that it is a six-year deal believed to be worth $2.5 million.

Nystrom, who played 14 seasons for the Islanders, was moved into a promotional and sales position when he declined general manager Bob Torrey's offer to become head coach at New Haven of the American Hockey League.

The Islanders named Rick Wilson to fill Nystrom's coaching spot.
