U of I plans to close Rockford psychiatric clinic
ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford is planning to close its psychiatric clinic early this fall.
The Rockford Register-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1wJCPYi ) that officials began notifying patients last month.
College of Medicine spokeswoman Cynthia Hall says the clinic has been struggling financially in recent years. She cites a continual decrease in funding from the state as a reason for the decision.
She says the teaching opportunities at the clinic are limited and the university felt it was best to redirect resources.
The clinic has been open for more than 20 years. It serves roughly 2,000 patients.
