SKOWHEGAN, Maine (AP) — Officials say a fire that torched part of a duplex in Skowhegan killed a man.

Officials say the fire killed 48-year-old Douglas Barrett, whose body was found in the kitchen. Authorities say the fire is not considered suspicious, but an investigation into its cause was still going on Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported about 1:30 a.m. Friday. The state fire marshal’s office says one side of the duplex was destroyed while the other was not badly burned.

Fire crews from around the area responded to the fire in the early morning hours of Friday.
