Strong storms moving across Louisiana bring hail, high winds
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Severe thunderstorms have brought large hail and high winds to northern Louisiana.
National Weather Service Shreveport meteorologist in charge Mario Valverde says radar indicated Friday night that tornadoes had formed in the area. He says the agency will have to review Saturday to confirm.
Valverde says there were reports of major damage in Coushatta in Red River Parish in the north-central region of the state.
The weather service also had reports of hail as large as baseballs in the area.
Valverde says the service has had no reports of fatalities.
Louisiana State Police officials say a suspected tornado touched down 8 miles (12.87 kilometers) north of Benton in Bossier Parish.
The Southwestern Electric Power Company reports more than 9,000 power outages Friday night in northwest Louisiana and northeastern Texas.
