ATLANTA (AP) _ San Diego first baseman Phil Nevin missed Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves because of a sprained ligament in his left elbow.

Nevin had an MRI exam Sunday. He said he originally hurt the elbow late last month and has struggled with it.

``I’ve kind of tweaked it every game since I hurt it,″ Nevin said after the Padres beat the Braves 6-5 Sunday. ``Finally, it got to the point where I was hurting the team, so I spoke up about it.″

He said he didn’t know how long he might be out.

``I think it just needs some rest,″ he said.
