Coast Guard responds to sinking vessel on Ohio River
CHESHIRE, Ohio — The Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Huntington responded to a sinking vessel that was reported near Cheshire, Ohio, around 1 p.m. Friday.
The CGMSUH received a report that the towing vessel Ed McLaughlin, owned by McGinnis Marine, capsized on the Ohio River at mile marker 259. All three crew members were accounted for and were taken to a local hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.
Members from MSU Huntington are en route to the scene to determine if the vessel is leaking fuel and to provide initial assessments of potential environmental and waterway impacts. Light sheening was reported to be around the vessel.
There was an estimated 4,900 gallons of diesel fuel on board the vessel.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
Cheshire is approximately 11 miles north of Gallipolis, Ohio.
