Five civilians were hurt in ambush of Florence officers

FLORENCE, S.C. – A total of 12 people were transported to local hospitals Wednesday in a shooting incident in the west Florence area.

That’s according to Florence County EMS, which responded 4:37 p.m. to report of shots fired and officer down at 932 Ashton Drive in the Vintage Place subdivision off of Hoffmeyer Road.

That’s more than initial reports.

A total of seven law enforcement officers and five civilians were transported to two local trauma centers: seven police officers and five civilians, Florence County EMS said in a news release.

Of the seven police officers transported, five were transported to McLeod Medical Center and two transported to Carolinas Hospital Systems.

Of the five civilians, four were transported to Carolinas Hospital Systems and one to McLeod Medical Center.

Terrence Carraway, 52, a Florence Police officer for the past 30 years, died as a result of being shot.

Three of the officers who were wounded are Florence Police officers and three are from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

No official news has been released about the condition of any of the wounded people.
