Trojans edged in OT

December 22, 2018

JUNEAU — Oakfield outlasted Dodgeland’s girls basketball team 50-46 in overtime in a Trailways East game on Thursday.

Dodgeland (5-5, 2-3 in conference) had five players foul out and struggled at the free-throw line, including a 1-for-8 performance in overtime.

The Trojans fell behind early but rallied to tie the game at 19-19 at halftime and take an eight-point lead with seven minutes left in regulation.

“They hit a couple shots and tightened it back up,” Dodgeland girls basketball coach Barry Hinrichsen said. “Fouls hurt us for sure. We lost (Meygan) Benzing with five or six minutes to go and (Katie) Loomis about the same time. Then we were playing some freshmen that hadn’t been in that situation and I thought they did as well as they could. Oakfield hit a big 3 late in overtime and free throws overall were a struggle.

“I felt the girls played hard and hustled. It wasn’t pretty at times, but they played hard. It was a hard fought game by both sides.”

Senior guard Julia Holtz scored a game-high 17 points for Dodgeland (5-5, 2-3 in conference). Freshman forward Adrianne Bader added nine points and 16 rebounds.

Dodgeland plays two games at the Cambridge tournament on Friday, Dec. 28.
