New community recreational field vandalized
HINESBURG, Vt. (AP) — Police in Vermont are searching for the person or people responsible for vandalizing a new community recreational field.
WPTZ-TV reports a vehicle was driven over the Hinesburg recreation field. The vehicle left deep tracks throughout the field.
Hinesburg Recreation Commission chair Frank Twarog estimates repairing the damage could cost up to $3,000. Twarog says regrading and reseeding the field could cost even more.
Community members and organizers spent 10 years fundraising to construct the field.
Hinesburg Recreation coordinator Jen McCuin says “mind-boggling” that someone would damage the field. McCuin says the vandalism hurts the community.
A reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest. An emergency town meeting is scheduled for Tuesday.
