John Wobig -- Red Wing
John Edward Wobig, age 61, of Red Wing, passed away Wednesday afternoon Nov. 28, 2018, at Saint Marys Hospital due to complications from heart surgery. His loved ones held his hands and surrounded him with prayers and loving memories during his last hours.
John was born Oct. 13, 1957, in Zumbrota, to Luverne (Vern) and Hazel Wobig. He graduated from Pine Island High school in 1976. He married Pamela Riess on Oct. 9, 1982, and together they had two children, Joe and Geneva. They later divorced. He married Maureen Windish on Nov. 14, 2008. They lived in Dent, Minn., for 6 years, before moving to Red Wing, 5 years ago to be closer to family.
Over the years, John spent his time driving semi cross-country, working in the family business of packing households, and just enjoying life with his family and friends.
During the warmer months, you would see John on the lakes trying to catch that “Big One” or tinkering on his ’57 Chevy Belair.
John is survived by his loving wife, Maureen; children, Joe (Carrie) Wobig, Geneva (Jeremy) Meyer, Crystal and Mike Riess, Jennifer Avery, Breanna (Brandon) Kowarsch, and Nina (Mike) Brant; and 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Melanie Silvestre (Nick Ohlrogge) and Melinda Berns (Jay Westerlund); one brother, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by mother, Hazel; brother, Randy; sister, Joan; and father, Luverne (Vern).
A Celebration of Life service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Pine Island.
Arrangements were handled by Rochester Cremation Services.
