Stray Dogs Kill Child
BELGRADE, Yugoslavia (AP) _ A pack of eight stray dogs attacked and killed a 3-year-old boy Wednesday in a Belgrade suburb, police said.
Emran Gasi was attacked in Mirjevo, a gritty suburb mostly inhabited by Gypsies and industrial workers, police said.
The problem of stray dogs has grown in the Serbian capital because of the economic crisis triggered by the U.N. economic embargo, imposed in 1992 to punish Belgrade for fomenting war in neighboring Bosnia.
Many dog owners have set their pets free because they could not pay for their upkeep. The problem has grown to such an extent that city authorities announced Wednesday they would build a new furnace for cremating dogs.
