ASHLAND — The Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a fatal, two-vehicle collision that occurred Sunday evening near the junction of Reeves Lane on U.S. 60 westbound in the Globe community of Carter County.

According to a news release from Post 14, Marsha Scott, 61, of Morehead, was driving a 2006 Pontiac Montana mini-van and turning left onto U.S. 60 from Reeves Lane at approximately 5:37 p.m. when she failed to see a motorcycle traveling eastbound.

The 2000 Suzuki Marauder was driven by Terry Johnson, 43, also of Morehead, who had his wife, Tonya Johnson, 43, as a passenger. According to the release, evidence on scene indicated Johnson braked to avoid the collision before laying the bike over on its left side. Johnson was ultimately unable to dodge the mini-van, according to the release, and struck the vehicle close to its front left fender.

Tonya Michelle Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Carter County Coroner William Waddell. Terry Johnson was taken to Saint Claire Medical Center for treatment, and was later air-lifted to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Both were wearing helmets, according to the release. Neither occupant of the mini-van was injured.

No criminal charges have been filed as a result of the crash, according to the release, and alcohol use is not suspected. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Bobby King, who was assisted on scene by Carter County EMS, the Carter County Coroner’s Office, and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
