Braves can clinch NL East title...Yankees can clinch wild-card...Meyer back on the Buckeyes’ sideline
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Braves can clinch their first NL East title since 2013 by beating Philadelphia this afternoon at home. Mike Foltynewicz (fohl-tih-NAY’-vihch) starts for Atlanta against Jake Arrieta (ehr-ee-ET’-uh). The Braves moved closer to the division crown with a 6-5 win over the Phillies last night.
NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Judge and the Yankees can clinch their second straight AL wild-card slot if they beat Baltimore today, and Tampa Bay loses to Toronto. New York also is trying to stay ahead of Oakland to host that one-game playoff on Oct. 3.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Coach Urban Meyer will be back on the Ohio State sideline today after serving a three-game suspension. He sat out after the university determined he mismanaged the behavior of former assistant Zach Smith when Smith was accused of domestic abuse. The No. 4 Buckeyes did just fine without him, taking down TCU last week to run their record to 3-0 under acting coach Ryan Day. Ohio State hosts heavy underdog Tulane.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Second-ranked Georgia gets another road test today with a visit to unbeaten Missouri. Georgia’s stifling defense will face its toughest challenge so far in trying to stop quarterback Drew Lock and the Tigers. Missouri will be trying to break through one of the nation’s best defenses. Both teams are 3-0.
ATLANTA — Tiger Woods, coming off one of his best rounds of the year, and Rickie Fowler are in front going into the second round of the Tour Championship. Top-ranked Justin Rose is a stroke behind.
