Sandwich teen convicted in 2012 fatal crash
BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — A Sandwich teenager has been convicted of motor vehicle homicide for his role in a 2012 crash that killed one person.
William Putnam IV was found guilty Tuesday after a one-day jury trial in Barnstable District Court.
Prosecutors say the 18-year-old Putnam was sentenced to one year in jail, suspended for four years of probation.
The Cape Cod Times (http://bit.ly/1cPJBW4 ) reports he was also ordered to complete 500 hours of community service, and his driver’s license was revoked for 15 years.
Authorities say Putnam ran a red light in Barnstable in November 2012 and struck another vehicle. A passenger in that vehicle, 24-year-old Luke Marshall of Brewster, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Putnam’s lawyer said the crash was simply an unfortunate accident.
