Hornets Extend Silas’ Contract

July 23, 2001

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ The Charlotte Hornets gave a contract extension to coach Paul Silas, who led the team to its most successful postseason ever.

``We are thrilled with the success of the team under the direction of Paul,″ Bob Bass, Charlotte’s executive vice president of basketball operations, said Monday. ``This ensures that we will continue to have his leadership on our sideline in the future.″

Last season, the Hornets came within a game of reaching the Eastern Conference finals. Since becoming head coach during the 1998-99 season, Silas has led Charlotte to a 117-82 record and into the playoffs the last two seasons.

Terms of Silas’ deal were not disclosed.
