Tanker, Dredger Hit Off Singapore
SINGAPORE (AP) _ An Indonesian tanker carrying 550 tons of the chemical phenol collided early Friday with a Dutch-registered dredging vessel off the northeast coast of Singapore, authorities said.
The collision between the Hikari 2 and the Dutch-registered Volvox Delta left both vessels damaged but no one hurt, Singapore port officials said in a statement.
A ``small amount″ of phenol leaked into the sea. Efforts were being made to stop the leakage, the statement said.
Phenol is used in making synthetic resins. It can be harmful to people, said port spokeswoman Ong Chong Pheng.
