Grant Township man dies in fatal vehicle accident
GRANT TWP. — A 76-year-old Grant man was killed in a single-vehicle accident Friday afternoon in Newaygo County, according to police.
The Michigan State Police Hart Post stated in a release that troopers were dispatched to 104th Street near Willow Avenue in Grant Township at approximately 2 p.m.
Police said the driver, identified as Robert Willis, 76, of Grant, was found to be deceased upon troopers’ arrival at the scene.
He was the only occupant of the vehicle, and had to be extricated from the car by fire personnel, according to police, who said it is not believed that any other vehicles were involved.
The driver was reportedly wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash and speed does not appear to be a contributing factor.
The cause of the crash is under investigation the Michigan State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
Troopers were assisted by the Grant Police Department, Grant Fire Department and Life EMS.
