Nebraska removing interim tag from gymnastics coach Brink

February 1, 2019

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Heather Brink has been named head coach of the Nebraska women’s gymnastics team, having the interim tag removed three months after she took over for Dan Kendig.

Brink’s appointment was announced Friday. She was a Nebraska assistant from 2012-15 and associate head coach from 2016-18.

The Lincoln native was an 11-time All-America gymnast at Nebraska and won two national titles at the 2000 NCAA meet. Brink was the school’s first woman to win an NCAA all-around title and the second to win a vault national title.

Athletic director Bill Moos said he’s been impressed with Brink’s leadership since taking over the program following the sudden retirement of Kendig. He stepped down in October after possible NCAA violations were discovered.
