Cincinnati overcomes South Florida 63-58
CINCINNATI (AP) — Farad Cobb scored 16 points and Cincinnati survived blowing a 16-point lead in the first half by defeating South Florida 63-58 on Saturday night.
The Bearcats led 28-12 with 4:42 in the first half before the Bulls finished the period on an 8-3 run to trail by 11. USF outscored Cincinnati 19-9 to start the second half and take its first lead at 41-37. Kevin Johnson answered with Cincinnati’s next eight points to get the Bearcats back on top by two. Cincinnati clung to the lead, building it to 57-50 with 41 seconds left and holding on with Troy Caupain’s breakaway layup after a scramble for the ball with eight seconds left sealing the win.
Johnson finished with 11 points for the Bearcats (17-6, 8-3 American Athletic).
Corey Allen Jr. scored 18 points and Troy Holston Jr. 16 for the Bulls (7-17, 1-10), who have lost nine straight games.
