WASHINGTON (AP) _ The United States and Russia have agreed to intensify efforts to prevent the transfer of technology to Iran's ballistic missile program, officials said Saturday.

Vice President Al Gore discussed the issue with Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin, Gore spokesman Jonathan Spalter said.

``The two leaders paid particular attention to continuing efforts to stop the flow of technology to Iran's ballistic missile program and agreed that both governments will intensify efforts to prevent these technology transfers from occurring,'' Spalter said in a statement.

``Both governments agree that this problem poses a threat to regional stability and to the national interests of Russia and the United States.''
