Scherzer aims at 300...Boston looks to extend team record...Is it a sport?
WASHINGTON (AP) — Max Scherzer needs 10 strikeouts to reach 300 for the season -- and he’ll have a chance to pick up those K’s tonight as the Nationals host the Marlins. Scherzer is 4-and-0 with a 2.67 ERA against Miami this year. He’ll face Jeff Brigham, who’s 0-and-3 and is making his fourth major league start.
BOSTON (AP) — They’ve won a team-record 106 games this season, and the Red Sox look to extend that mark at home against the Orioles. David Price tries to bounce back from a rough start in Yankee Stadium in the second game of the series in what could be his last start of the regular season. Jimmy Yacabonis will start for Baltimore.
PHOENIX (AP) — Dodgers righthander Walker Buehler brings a 2.74 ERA into his scheduled start against Arizona. Opponents are batting .198 against the rookie. For the Diamondbacks, Matt Koch is set to face the Dodgers. He’s won each of his last three starts at home since May 28.
CHICAGO (AP) — In 32 starts this year, Chicago White Sox righthander James Shields has just seven wins to show for it -- but he’s 2-and-1 in his last five starts heading into tonight’s game against the Indians. Cleveland manager Terry Francona says Trevor Bauer won’t throw more than 60 or 65 pitches in his second game after missing 35 games with a stress fracture in his lower right leg.
