SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Former D.C. United coach Frank Yallop was hired Friday as coach of the San Jose Earthquakes.

Yallop, 36, a former member of the Canadian national team, had a professional playing career in England and the United States spanning nearly two decades. He began coaching in 1999.
