All aboard for Christmas fun

The Beatrice Educational Foundation hosted a Polar Express bus ride, activities and a visit from Santa, Mrs. Claus and Rudolph, Sunday evening.

“Each year the Beatrice Educational Foundation has more requests from teachers than we can fill and we thought this family-friendly event would allow us to raise money so we can provide more assistance to students and teachers,” said Doris Martin, executive director of the foundation.

The bus traveled through Beatrice allowing guests to view Christmas lights while Ed Ankrom, the “conductor,” read “The Polar Express” book authored by Chris Van Allsburg.

After the bus ride, families had the opportunity to decorate sugar cookies, make a snowman ornament and visit Santa. Rudolph was also available for photos.

Mrs. Claus helped on the bus with page turning and led the group in Christmas songs.

“The most fun for me was helping decorate the sugar cookies,” said Kay McKenzie, Beatrice Educational Foundation Board member. “We just had the best time and it was such a fun experience.

“The neatest thing is that this event is all about family,” McKenzie said. “We are all about kids and building relationships within families.”

Megan Hoffman and Dawson Saathoff, student representatives on the Beatrice Educational Foundation Board, also helped with frosting the cookies.

“We are hoping people had a great time and more families can take a trip on the Polar Express next year,” Martin said.
