Police: Man who pointed gun at officers shot, wounded
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say police in Tennessee have shot and wounded a man who held three people hostage before turning a gun on responding officers.
Chattanooga police Chief David Roddy said officers initially responded to an “emotional crisis call” Wednesday morning that involved a man with a long gun holding three people against their will at a residence. He says hostage negotiators contacted the man and asked him to put the gun down and come outside, but he came outside armed.
Roddy says the man pointed the gun at officers and at least one officer fired at him. The man was taken to a hospital. An updated condition wasn’t immediately available.
The shooting will be investigated by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
No further information was immediately available.
