Deadline looms for Mass. federal judge nominations
BOSTON (AP) — Candidates hoping to land a job as a U.S. District Court judge in Massachusetts have until Monday to submit their applications.
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced last month that she’s appointed an advisory committee on judicial nominations in Massachusetts to solicit, interview and comment on applications for the court vacancies in Springfield and Boston.
Warren will review the work of the committee and will ultimately recommend judicial nominees to President Barack Obama. Warren has described the lifetime appointment to the federal bench as a solemn responsibility and hopes to quickly fill the vacancies.
The committee is made up of members of the Massachusetts legal community, including academics and litigators.
The committee will be chaired by former U.S. District Judge Nancy Gertner.
Applications must be completed and received by Monday.
