Accused Kidnap-Killer Pleads Innocent
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) _ The man accused of kidnapping two Nevada teen-agers and strangling their chaperones pleaded innocent Wednesday to charges of murder and sexual assault.
Superior Court Judge Terrence Finney scheduled a pre-trial conference Aug. 7 for Herbert James Coddington.
Coddington, 28, is accused of luring the girls and their chaperones to his South Lake Tahoe mobile home on May 16 where he allegedly assaulted the girls and killed the women.
The two murder charges carry specifications that would allow the death penalty. Coddington remains jailed without bail.
Coddington is accused of luring a 12-year-old Sparks girl and a 14-year-old Reno girl to the mobile home by telling them they would appear in an anti-drug videotape.
He allegedly assaulted the girls and killed Maybelle ″Mabs″ Martin, 69, who owned a Reno modeling school, and her friend, Dorothy ″Dottie″ Walsh, 67, of Reno.
