Trahan Remains in Lead Over Koh in Final Day of Recount
LOWELL -- Lori Trahan continues to lead Dan Koh in the 3rd Congressional District Democratic primary as recount results file in Monday afternoon ahead of the final result expected later in the day.
As of 12 p.m., Trahan led Koh by 142 votes with hand recounts completed in 32 of the district’s 37 communities, according to Secretary of State William Galvin’s office. The remaining five municipalities -- Ayer, Bolton, Gardner, Lunenburg and Maynard -- were still conducting their recounts Monday afternoon.
In the latest round of recount numbers reported Monday, Trahan gained votes 72 in Lowell to Koh’s 27, further widening her margin in the city. She lost 20 votes in Dracut, where Koh’s tally remained unchanged, and 15 votes in Chelmsford, where Koh also lost 4 votes.
Trahan and Koh finished a narrow first and second in the 10-way Democratic primary for U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas’ seat on Sept. 4. Only 122 votes out of more than 88,000 cast -- a margin of about 0.1 percentage points -- separated them in the original certified results, and both Trahan and Koh filed for recounts.
The recount must be completed by 5 p.m. Monday, per the secretary of state’s orders.
