FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) _ A woman leaving work at a JC Penney discovered a newborn baby girl under a blanket placed in her topless 1993 Jeep Friday.

``The baby is healthy and fine,'' said Fort Myers police spokeswoman Kara Winton. ``It was apparently well fed and taken care of. We don't know if it was someone who felt they couldn't take care of the baby or what it is.''

Lori Lyons left work at 4:30 p.m. when she noticed the strange blanket, lifted it and found the baby, Winton said.

The baby is believed to be one to three days old, she said. Police do not know where she was born and are searching for the baby's mother.

``It had been fed pretty recently because it spit up some formula,'' Winton said. ``It had a diaper on and was wrapped in a blanket. By all indications it was well taken care of.''

The case follows two other highly publicized abandonments of newborns in Florida in the past three months.

In November, a girl was found in a Disney World toilet minutes after being born.

In December, a 10th grader gave birth to a boy in a St. Petersburg high school bathroom and left the baby in a trash can.
