Utah school will allow students to reject dance invitations
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah elementary school has decided to give its students the option of saying no when they are asked to dance during school events after a parent complained about its rule.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the parent of a sixth-grader at Kanesville Elementary School complained to school officials last week after learning that her daughter could not say no if someone asked her to dance at their Valentine’s Day dance.
Weber School District spokesman Lane Findlay said in a statement that the district is re-examining the procedures surrounding these dances.
School officials say students are given “dance cards” where they can write down their partner preferences.
Attending the dance is optional.
