Celebrate ‘positive relationships’ on Valentine’s Day with Safe Passage at Blumen Gardens

January 11, 2019

SYCAMORE – Safe Passage wants to provide a fun date night for you and your partner for Valentine’s Day this year.

Kicking off the fundraiser’s inaugural year, DeKalb County’s domestic violence and sexual assault crisis center will host LOVE: Love Over Violence Event, a Valentine’s Day-themed fundraiser on February 15 at Blumen Gardens, 403 Edwards St. in Sycamore.

“We’re hoping this will be our biggest fundraiser of the year,” Kendal Baker said, Safe Passage’s marketing and communications specialist.

Baker said the new LOVE event will be replacing the organization’s long-standing Evening of Chocolate fundraiser. She said the new theme is about celebrating positive relationships.

“We just talk about bad relationships and all these relationships that aren’t good [at Safe Passage], and I think it’s time to celebrate the good ones that we have in our community as well,” Baker said.

The evening will feature substantial appetizers, drinks, a date-themed basket raffle, and even have a florist on hand to design bouquets for partners, as well as a dance instructor to teach couples dancing, said Lynnea Erickson Laskowski, director of prevention and communication at Safe Passage.

“We’re most excited that this event is not only a great chance to give back to Safe Passage, but a great opportunity for people who are looking for a new and unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day,” Erickson Laskowski said.

Tickets are $50 per person and include a signature drink. Interested individuals can purchase a ticket online at dekalbcounttickets.com., by phone at 815-758-1225, or the Egyptian Theatre box office, 135 North Second St., in DeKalb, open Tuesday-Thursday from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.
